The Wrath of the Klan Essay White robes, masks, and conical hats are the definitive appearance of the Ku Klux Klan. Formed post-Civil War, the Klan has stricken fear into many individuals, being America’s first true terrorist group. Today, it is still a prominent organization that is trying to be stopped. The KKK is arguably the most infamous organization of all time because of their hate of non-white/Christian people. The Ku Klux Klan originated in 1865. It was created by six Confederate Army veterans in Pulaski, Tennessee to oppose Reconstruction policies and maintain â€Å"white supremacy†by scaring African Americans (â€Å"The First Ku Klux Klan†). The Klan quickly spread into most southern states and started its reign of terror on blacks, Republicans, scalawags (white Southerners who interacted with Northerners), and carpetbaggers (Northerners that moved to the South) (â€Å"The First Ku Klux Klan†). Common acts used by the Klan during that time were lynchings, whippings, rapes, and tar-and-featherings (â€Å"Ku Klux Klan†). The Klan had a meeting in 1867 to attempt organize itself; General Nathan Bedford became the Grand Wizard in the process (â€Å"The First Ku Klux Klan†). Despite this meeting, the Dens continued to operate independently and became more and more reckless (â€Å"The First Ku Klux Klan†). Forrest ordered for the Klan to be disbanded in 1869, saying that the Klan was being perverted from its original honorable and patriotic purposes, becoming injurious instead of subservient to the public peace. (â€Å"Creation of First Klan†). The first Klan officially ended in 1871, as the government would pass a Force Act to make most of their intimidation tactics federal offenses, thus hindering their actions (â€Å"First KKK†). The Klan would remain inactive for the next few decades. Indeed, in about four decades, the Klan would rise again. The second Klan was founded in 1915 by William J. Simmons (â€Å"The Second Ku Klux Klan†). Compared to its previous incarnation, this Klan was much better organized, such as how it recruited members with membership fees (â€Å"The Second Klan†). This Klan was not just focused on blacks, but Catholics, Jews, and immigrants as well (â€Å"Revival of the Ku Klux Klan†). Their actions were similar to that of the first Klan, frequently using extreme actions on its enemies (â€Å"The Second Ku Klux Klan†). This Klan was the biggest of any Klan during its lifespan, with an estimated 4-5 million members at its peak in the mid-1920s (â€Å"The Second Klan†). However after the Great Depression in 1929, the Klan quickly deteriorated in the 1930s, and by the 1940s it was again finished due to â€Å"internal conflicts, criminal acts done by chapter leaders and external oppositions†(â€Å"The Second Klan†). The Klan was back again during the Civil Rights Movement. During that time, many whites were outraged by the proposed laws of African Americans getting equal rights; therefore, they formed multiple groups throughout the South, calling themselves the Ku Klux Klan (â€Å"The Third Klan†). Violence of these groups was most notable in Birmingham, Alabama, with them bombing and attacking African Americans schools and white activists (â€Å"The Third Klan†). One of the more notable bombings is the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church, which killed four children (â€Å"The Third Klan†). These bombings led to the arrest of multiple members of the Klan (â€Å"The Third Klan†). Since the 1970s, the Klan has been weakened by events such as court cases and government infiltration (â€Å"Ku Klux Klan†). To further limit their notoriety, neo-Nazi activity would soon overshadow the Klan by the late 1990s (â€Å"About the Ku Klux Klan†). In the early 2000s, the immigration rates in some communities increased greatly, creating fear of immigration in many Americans (â€Å"About the Ku Klux Klan†). To no surprise, the Klan attempted to use this fear to gain publicity and more members, though they ultimately failed. The Klan is still active to this day, numbering between five thousand to eight thousand members. It is split into â€Å"klaverns†, or small organizations, that are located throughout the United States (â€Å"Present-Day Klans†). These klaverns have increased ever since the election of Barack Obama as president in 2008, hoping to bring back white supremacy (â€Å"Present-Day Klans†). Recently, they have been trying to exploit common issues such as gay marriage and crime (â€Å"About the Ku Klux Klan†). Many people consider their actions to be nothing more than attention-seeking (â€Å"The KKK History†). It is possible that they are waiting for the perfect opportunity to reign supremacy. The Ku Klux Klan will forever live in infamy due to their violent actions. During its existence, the Klan has attacked African Americans, Jews, immigrants, homosexuals, and Catholics. Although it will never be as big as it was in the previous years, many people still fear this dangerous group. Small children have trouble sleeping at night in thought of the Ku Klux Klan’s terrifying actions.

Prosody of Beowulf       The prosody of Beowulf is the art of Old English versification, made to be chanted orally, not read silently. Therefore it uses alliteration and accent to achieve the poetic effect which Modern English poetry achieves through the use of poetic feet, each having the same number of syllables and the same pattern of accent (Wilkie 1271). Theory on the prosody of Beowulf is evolving.  In the manuscript version of the poem, alliteration is employed in almost every line (or two half-lines); in most modern translations of the poem this is not so. In lines 4 and 5 of the poem we find:  Oft Scyld Scefing                              sceapena preatum monegum maegpum                          meodo-setla ofteah  The repetition of the â€Å"s†sound in line 4 and of the â€Å"m†sound in line 5 illustrate alliteration, and this occurs throughout the poem, providing to the listener an aesthetic sense of rightness or pleasure. In 1958 two language scholars, Lehmann nd Tabusa, produced an alphabetized list of every alliterated word in the poem. One translator, Kevin Crossley-Holland, in his rendition of the poem in Literature of the Western World, actually includes considerable alliteration (Wilkie 1271). The Old English poet would â€Å"tie†the two half-lines together by their stressed alliteration (Chickering 4). The first half-line is called the on-verse, which is followed by the off-verse. The Utilization of Moringa Oleifera (Malunggay)
Rising energy prices and environmental problems led to the increase in alcohol demands in many aspects, like in making fuels. Many people are doing researches about making their own product so as to lessen their everyday expenses. Right now, Filipino scientists are in think of the search for alternative fuels, with the experts from the University of the Philippines in both Diliman and Los Banos campuses searching all over the archipelago for energy sources from the forests to the bottom of the sea, from enzymes to fungi and other microorganisms. So, the researcher came up of using the malunggay leaves extract as source of ethanol since based on the study done by Senator Loren Legarda, the extracts obtained from the leaves of malunggay plant is 80% ethanol, which is used for fuels. This study knew the possibility of ethanol from malunggay leaves extract. First, the researcher gathered the needed the raw material, the malunggay leaves. It weighted . 75 kilogram. Then, through the process of grinding and filtration, 700mL of malunggay leaves extract was produced. The extract was fermented after with the aid of live yeast for a period of six weeks. The fermented extracts was then distilled using the simple distilling apparatus and the researcher obtained 60 mL ethanol. The ethanol was then brought to the Philippine Institute of Pure and Applied Chemistry (PIPAC) to know its ethanol content. Based on the testing done, only . 5% of the volume of the product is ethanol. After the testing, the intrinsic properties were computed. Using the formula for density, D=mass/volume, 47. 4 g/ml was obtained. For the specific gravity, the formula SG=density of the liquid/density of water, and . 79 was obtained.

Odysseus being hubris ends up causing him and his crew problems. Therefore, Odysseus hubris because he would not take the blame when it was his fault. Next, Odysseus has bad communication skills. Odysseus should have good communi cation skills so he can communicate well with his men and gain their trust. However, Odysseus has bad communication skills. When Odysseus fell asleep his men open the bag thinking it is gold and silver. They open the bag of winds. According to the story Down to the ship, Eurylochus came running to cry alarm, foul magic doomed his men! If Odysseus would have told his men the bag contained winds then they would not have opened it. As a result, they blew farther away from their destination. This proves Odysseus has bad communication skill. Since Odysseus does not have good communication skill, he is a bad leader. Lastly, Odysseus makes poor decisions. Making good decisions is the most beneficial part of a good leader. In everyday life, you are constantly making decisions all day long. Odysseus makes many poor decisions which was a cause for him to become a terrible leader. One situation was when they explored a cave and tried to steal cattle and cheese. Polyphemus returned and trapped Odysseus Men. Before Polyphemus was drunk Odysseus gives him his name and poked Polyphemus eye out to free his men. According to the poem Heating the end of the pole until it was glowing red, we ran it toward the Cyclops like a battering ram, aiming it for his eye and driving it deep. The thing sizzled as hot metal dropped in water while I twisted it like an auger. This poor decision he makes caused some of his men die. Also, the men were trying to convince him to go back. All good leaders listen, but Odysseus did not because he is a bad leader. In other words, this example shows Odysseus is a terrible leader because he makes horrible decisions.
